Kirk Herbstreit Makes Prediction For Alabama vs. Georgia

first_imgkirk herbstreit looking very tan at the nfl draftSaturday’s SEC Championship Game is a rematch of last year’s national championship between Alabama and Georgia football. It may also serve as a play-in game for the College Football Playoff. The winner of the game is undoubtedly in. Alabama is undefeated and has looked like the most dominant team in the sport, while Georgia would immediately have the best win in the country, and just one loss on the season, at LSU.Neither team is totally doomed with a loss. Alabama has been so good, that even with a close loss, they’d have a good argument against Ohio State, which was blown out by Purdue, and Oklahoma, which pairs a historically great offense with a brutal defense.Georgia would need a lot of help from Texas and Northwestern, but if it lost a classic with Alabama along with the Sooners and Buckeyes losses, there’s a chance they’d get in over the rest of the field, including an undefeated UCF without start quarterback McKenzie Milton.Kirk Herbstreit discussed that possibility for the Bulldogs after the latest College Football Playoff rankings release. It sounds like he thinks that is what UGA will need to happen, too.On his podcast, Kirk Herbstreit gave his prediction for Saturday’s Alabama vs. Georgia football game in Atlanta. From the latest Herbstreit & Fitzsimmons episode, via Saturday Down South:“I think Georgia’s defense is going to have a very hard time slowing down this Alabama attack. They don’t rush the quarterback well, they don’t penetrate the line of scrimmage and get into the backfield in the run game and because of that, they are going to have to be aggressive blitzing to get pressure. Bringing safeties, bringing linebackers and I think that kinda plays into the hands of what Alabama wants you to do.“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tua make some big plays early in this game, makes some throws, get the passing game going to set up their running game. Very balanced attack on both sides. I expect, I don’t know if it’s going to be the shootout that went into overtime in the national title game last year but I expect points by both sides. It’s going to be very competitive game. I like ‘Bama to win it but I think they are going to get pushed by Georgia.”The SEC Championship is set for a 4 p.m. ET. Alabama is a 13.5-point favorite in the match-up.[ESPN via Saturday Down South]last_img read more
