Pedestrian killed at Soesdyke, Cop detained

The accident at Soesdyke, EBD resulted in the death of a maleThe PPP 8497 Allion motor car that struck the pedestrianpedestrian who was struck down while attempting to cross the Public Road.Police revealed that this accident occurred at 03:00h Sunday when the driver of the PPP 8497 Allion motorcar, a police constable, was reportedly taking injured constable, Gavin Gentle in his personal vehicle to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Gentle was also involved in an accident just moments before.It was claimed that just before the fatal accident, the PPP 8497 motor car of theThe mangled PTT 5444 motorcar in which Constable Gavin Gentle crashed into a utility pole at Timerhiimplicated constable was escorted by a police vehicle with flashing lights and the sound of its siren. According to information received, the driver of PPP 8497 allegedly swerved from the pedestrian who was said to be on the centre of the road when he was struck down by the constable’s car. The pedestrian was picked up and placed in the said motorcar and was taken to the Diamond Hospital alongPolice mark out the point of impact where the unidentified pedestrian was struckwith the injured policeman.Thereafter, the pedestrian was pronounced dead on arrival and the injured policeman was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted. His condition was listed as serious but stable. According to police, the driver of PPP 8497 was tested and no alcoholThe cars of the two police ranks that were involved in separate accidentswas traced on his breath.The driver of the motor car was subsequently detained and later assisted police with investigations. When Guyana Times arrived on the scene, the driver was recounting to investigators all that transpired when the accident occurred. The dead man, was up to Sunday afternoon, yet to be identified. Gentle, the injuredThe fender of the Allion motorcar, seen several feet away from the point of impactman, is attached to the Bartica Police station.Police indicated that around 02:30h Sunday, Gentle was proceeding south on the Timehri Public Road, EBD when he lost control of his PTT 5444 motorcar and crashed into a utility pole. Gentle sustained injuries as a result of the collision. It was not clear if he sustained additional injuries as result of the second accident.
