Finsbury Food Group has purchased the freehold property of its Lightbody celebration cakes factory in Hamilton, Scotland.The company – which supplies cake, bread and morning goods to retail and foodservice operators – is expected to pay around £2.6m for the property, including costs.Finsbury has occupied the 133,000 sq ft site for over 10 years. Employing more than 1,000 people, Lightbody was established in 1885 as a family retail bakery business. It supplies licensed and own-label products after shifting its focus to celebration cakes in the 1980s.Finsbury acquired the Lightbody business in 2007.The company said the freehold acquisition would be financed from existing available cash resources, with the move coming a week after Finsbury agreed a new £45m revolving credit facility. At the time of the announcement, the company said the deal gave it increased capacity to explore future growth opportunities and support long-term investment.Following the purchase of the Lightbody freehold, Finsbury will own the freehold of the whole facility in Hamilton, plus both of its other major sites, in Cardiff and Sheffield.
MANILA –Public schools in Western Visayas that were suspended by theirrespective local government units (LGUs) due to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) outbreak will no longer be permitted to hold final examinations fortheir students, the Department of Education (DepEd) said. Schools which continue to hold classes, meanwhile, must conduct theirexams this week but on a “staggered basis.” Students should only come to schoolin varying schedules to take the tests. The schools prevented from holding the fourth quarter exams are directedto apply a specific set “grading formula” for the computation of the finalgrades of the affected learners in the last quarter of the school year, DepEdsaid in a memorandum released Monday. The schools, in consultation with the Parents-Teachers Associations,may also opt to reschedule or forego holding of the rites, “should the publichealth situation prevent the holding of the rites within the said period.” Several LGUs in this region then followed by placing their areas under“community quarantine” in accordance with the President’s order to avoid “massgatherings.” Classes in Manila have been earlier suspended until April 14 byPresident Rodrigo Duterte to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to other parts ofthe country. DepEd added that public schools will still follow the Policy Guidelineson Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program for FourthQuarter grade. Further academic requirements, if any, shall be done ashome-based assignments. Teachers are not required to report to schools unless ordered by theSchools Division Superintendent. They are also encouraged to use online portalsidentified by DepEd to continue lectures with students and perform their tasks. DepEd also reiterated that in the graduation or moving up ceremoniesset on April 13-17, people should apply proper social distancing rules. The evening started with the make-up feature for the Casey’s General Stores IMCA Stock Cars, where Bo Lundquist got out front early and held on for the victory. Behind Lundquist, Aaron Cain and point leader Jason Ward rounded out the top three. Next came the make-up feature for the Jebro, Inc. IMCA Modifieds. After working his way to the lead from midpack, Chris Abelson ran away to the finish, taking the win over Ricky Stephan and early leader Jason Schneiders. In the regular features, division leader Ramsey Meyer took the win in the KISS 107.1FM IMCA Sport Compacts. Meyer had to fight to the finish to hold off defending track champion Cody Thompson and hard-charging Don Tank.The Motor Parts Central IMCA Hobby Stock feature was dominated by Ron Jensen, who, despite giving up the lead on a late race restart, came back to the front for the victory over Mike Hansen and David Miller.Chad TenNapel broke into victory lane for the first time this season in the Skyline Casino IMCA SportMod division. Ten Napel had the outside line covered and held off division point leader Karl Brewer and number two point man Todd Boulware.Lundquist made it two-for-two on the evening winning the second Stock Car event with Cain again finished in the runner up spot. Ryan Harris rounded out the top three. Matching Lundquist’s double in the Stock Cars, Abelson also swept the night, winning the second Modified feature over Jim Cole and Stephan.
Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman is relishing his debut call up to the Black Stars ahead of the team’s World Cup qualifier against Sudan on March 24 in Kumasi.The former Asante Kotoko player is one of four players to have received maiden call-ups from coach Kwasi Appiah.Baba Rahman who currently plays for German side Greuther in an interview with JOY Sports noted his excitement at his debut call up“I was praying for it every day so I thank God for this opportunity,” said Rahman.“Now that I have been called, I have to try my best and give all that is in me and see what I can offer Ghana and I think I will make Ghanaians proud.”
