Islanders’ Simon, Ladyjacks’ Miller Take Home Weekly Volleyball Honors

Austin’s Maddie Miller are the Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.The Islanders (12-9, 5-3 SLC) claimed a pair of wins last week at home over Sam Houston State and on the road against Houston Baptist. Simon led the charge for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi offense, notching 35 kills over the two-game stretch for a 4.38-kills-per-set average and a .291 hitting percentage. Heading into the week, the Islanders are halfway through their Southland Conference schedule and will return to their home court Thursday evening against Nicholls. The honor marks the first of the season for Simon.Stephen F. Austin (20-1-0, 8-0) kept its amazing 13-game win streak alive in week seven with a pair of victories at home against Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana. Miller anchored the SFA defense to a pair of sweeps, extending the Ladyjacks to 34 consecutive set wins. Stephen F. Austin will have the opportunity to keep its win streak alive this Thursday on the road against Central Arkansas. The junior outside hitter tied a then-career high 16 kills in a victory over Sam Houston State Thursday night. She then followed suit with another career-high 19 kills against Houston Baptist Saturday. Austin – Jr. – Libero – Lorena, TexasMiller scooped up 19 digs in SFA’s sweep of Nicholls Thursday evening before adding 22 more on Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana. The junior’s 22 digs against the Lady Lions marked the third time in Southland Conference play that Miller has registered 20 or more in a match, rounding out her week with a 6.83 digs per set average and 41 digs in total.Needing just six sets to dispatch the opposition, the Ladyjacks held their foes to a collective .144 attack percentage. No Southland opponent has posted an attack percentage higher than .167 against SFA this season as the Ladyjacks have yet to surrender a set in league play. The team’s 34 consecutive set victories currently stand as the nation’s longest active win streak.
